When preparing for winter in Prince Edward Island, keep in mind that winter weather can affect garbage collection with delays and/or cancellations.
To help ensure smooth and safe waste collection during the colder months, here are a few important tips:
- When possible, place carts and recyclables curbside by 7 am the morning of collection. Avoid placing them out the night before, as they may freeze to the ground – making collection difficult or impossible.
- Place carts and recyclables on the right side of the driveway (as you face the road) so the collection driver and snow plough operator can see it when there are snowbanks.
- Ensure cart wheels face away from the road so they can be tipped without risk of damage.
- Remove carts as soon as possible after collection to prevent them from blowing onto the road.
- For private roads, notify your snow removal company of your collection schedule so the area can be cleared and salted/sanded by 7 AM.
The safety of Island residents is IWMC’s top priority. During severe weather, collections may be delayed or cancelled. Our team works hard to share updates quickly and clearly.
