During Waste Reduction Week, October 17-23, we here on PEI can take a moment to celebrate the successes we have achieved through Waste Watch.  Since our program went Island wide, we have diverted nearly a million metric tonnes of material from landfill, have closed all rural dumpsites, and have ensured that hazardous products have been disposed of properly.  During this period, hundreds of thousands metric tonnes of organics have been composted into Category A compost for agricultural use and all recyclable products have been remanufactured into new items.

It is hard to imagine that years ago unsorted material was simply buried without consideration to the environment.  Thank you EVERYONE for a job well done.

3 Rs Eco-Art Challenge
Elementary school students and eligible youth groups are encouraged to submit a creative poster that promotes the 3 Rs--reduce, reuse & recycle.
A $500 prize will be awarded for the top design in each province with a national grand prize of $1000.  The grand prize winner's design will be used as the National Waste Reduction Week in Canada poster for 2017.

For more information, visit the Waste Reduction Week in Canada's website here.  Additional details will be posted soon.
