Yard Debris Collection

Residential Yard Debris collection takes place Island-wide the week of Monday, November 3 and Monday, November 17 as part of our annual Fall Cleanup. Place your yard debris materials curbside by 7 A.M. on the Monday of each week. Drivers have the full week to collect yard debris (including Saturday), so your collection may not be on your regular cart day.

*Please Note: Drivers will only visit your area for Fall Cleanup once per week. That is why materials must be curbside by 7 A.M. on Monday.

If you have not been collected by end-of-day Saturday of each cleanup week, please report the missed collection to our Customer Service Centre by Tuesday of the following week. The Centre can be reached by phone (1-888-280-8111) or email (info@iwmc.pe.ca).

Accepted Materials:
  • Grass clippings
  • Leaves
  • Branches, twigs, brush
  • Compostable and organic materials
Acceptable Containers:
  • Compostable paper bags
  • Compostable bags with BPI or BNQ certification logos
  • Rigid containers

Helpful Tips:

Yard debris in non-compostable plastic bags or corrugated cardboard boxes will NOT be accepted.

When placing yard debris bags at curbside, line them across the front of your property (parallel to the road). This makes pickup more efficient, and the paper bags are less likely to break open because they are not carried as far.

Be sure to bundle and tie similar items, such as twigs and branches. Each item (or bundle) must not exceed 50 lbs in weight and 4ft in any dimension.

Small amounts of garden waste and produce can be placed in your compost cart (green cart).

Wood stumps* measuring more than 15″ in diameter and weighing less than 50 lbs will be collected on regular black cart days in November.

*If you have several pieces of wood (ie. 3 to 5 pieces), you can place them curbside with your black cart for collection. They cannot exceed 4 feet in any direction or 50 lbs. If you have large amounts of wood to dispose of (ie. a large tree that’s been cut), you can bring material to a Waste Watch Drop-Off Center any time of the year.

Minimum charge per residential load is $5 and maximum per-load charge is $30.

Excess Waste Collection

Simply place properly sorted waste material curbside in clear plastic bags, rigid containers, or bundled together by 7 A.M. on your regular waste (black) cart collection during Fall Cleanup. The two-container or item limit for excess waste is waived for waste (black) cart collection during Fall Cleanup.

If collection is missed, please report it to our Customer Service Centre within two days.

Waste Collection Guidelines
  • Materials must be less than 50 lbs and 4 feet in any dimension.
  • Larger material can be cut, bundled, and tied to meet guidelines.
  • Solid coloured bags or blue bags are NOT accepted.
